Summer Camps

Durham School is a traditional English Boarding School with over 600 years of history. Our safe campus is just a 10-minute walk from Durham City centre and has well equipped classrooms, science labs and various sports pitches, as well as a Harry Potter style dining hall and comfortable boarding houses.

Throughout the British summer holidays, we run English Language camps for students aged 10-16. Our programme consists of English lessons in the morning and activities in the afternoon. The course aim is to encourage students to speak English and gain practical experience doing every day activities. Organised trips include; Edinburgh, York, Alnwick castle, Oxford, Cambridge and London. The camps offer excellent value for money and a chance to really explore British Culture.

English Lessons

The English Lessons are designed to give the children a chance to learn the English language, the course covers a wide range of topics, including how to shop, booking a holiday and taking a trip on the train. We cover reading, writing, listening and speaking English during lessons with classes being set by ability to allow the greatest progress.

As well as our formal lessons, students are encouraged to speak English at all times in and around the campus, the activities programme is also designed to help with this.

During their stay, students are offered a wide variety of activities in the afternoon and evenings that are both fun and educational. These range from trips to the beach, tours of historical sites, learning about local history, a real chance to experience British culture.

Oxford, Cambridge and London

No trip to Great Britain would be complete without visiting the cities of Oxford, Cambridge and London. Our 3-day trip, included in the course fee, gives students the opportunity to visit the historic Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. When visiting London, students are given the opportunity to visit the British Museum and see the sights such as Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace.

Our staff are qualified, experienced and on hand for the duration of the camp. The resident House staff are caring and supportive and live on site with students. Students are assigned a group leader, to help them gain the best experience from the various trips and activities.

Durham School is a traditional boarding school and students will be housed in one of our on-site boarding houses. Each house has a common room where students can relax after a busy day of lessons and activities, the common room is an ideal place to relax with fellow students. The houses also have a kitchen with facilities to enable students to make drinks and snacks.

Students must be aged 10-16 at the start of the course. We cater for all levels of English; from beginner to advanced.
