2019 GCSE Result Success

An impressive 42% of pupils this year scored grades 7, 8 and 9 in GCSEs graded 9-1, the common grading system for almost all GCSE exams.

12% of the grades were the top grade 9 which are designed to be significantly more difficult to achieve than the old A* grade.

Jonathon, achieved 10 GCSEs at grade 9 and two A* grades including the prestigious Further Maths GCSE. In 2018 only 336 pupils of the half a million in Year 11 achieved 10 or more grade 9s, so Jonny is in rarefied company; he will study Maths, Further Maths, French and History in Sixth Form.

Fellow pupils Maggie and Helena each received six grade 9s, two grade 8s and three A* grades across all their subjects including A* with Distinction in Further Maths GCSE.

Both Maggie and Helena are looking forward to continuing their studies at Durham School Sixth Form. Maggie plans to take A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics while Helena intends to study Art, Maths, Biology and Physics.

Headmaster Kieran McLaughlin said: “These are tremendous results for the school and particularly for the pupils who have worked so hard. I am delighted that we will be seeing so many of them in September as they begin the next stage of their education.”

Congratulations to every pupil, you have all done amazing and should be very proud of yourselves

We look forward to welcoming you back as Sixth Formers in September
