Summer Camps

Durham School is a traditional English Boarding School with over 600 years of history. Our safe campus is just a 10 minute walk from Durham City centre and has its own sports hall, swimming pool and sports pitches, as well as a Harry Potter style dining hall and comfortable boarding houses.

Over the British Summer holidays, we run English Language camps for students aged 11-16. Our programme consists of English lessons in the morning and activities in the afternoon that will encourgae children to speak English and gain practical experience. With trips to Edinburgh, York, Alnwick castle, Oxford, Cambridge and London the camps offer excellent value for money and a chance to really explore British Culture.

English Lessons

Our English Course is designed to give the children a chance to learn English that is useful and covers a wide range of topics; from shopping to going on holiday and taking a trip. We cover reading, writing, listening and speaking during lessons with classes being set by ability to allow greatest progress.

As well as our formal lessons, students are encouraged to speak English at all times and the activities programme is also designed to help with this.

During their stay, students are provided with a variety of acitivites in the afternoon and evenings that are both fun and educational. These range from trips to the beach, tours of historical sites, learning about local history and a chance to experience British culture. We also have film nights, shopping trips and sporting activities for students to try.

Oxford, Cambridge and London

No trip to Great Britian would be complete without visiting the cities of Oxford, Cambridge and London. Our 3-day trip is included in the price and allows students a chance to visit the historic Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. In London, students are given the opportunity to visit the British Museum and see the sights such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliment and Buckingham Palace.

Our staff are qualified, experienced and on hand for the duration of the camp. Our resident House staff are caring and supportive and live on site with students. Students are assigned activity groups at the start of camp and they will get to know their activity leaders very well as they help them get the most from the various trips and experiences.

Durham School is a traditional boarding school and students will be housed in our boarding facilities. Each house has a common room where students can relax after a busy day of lessons and activities. This could be reading a book, watching a film or playing games together. There are also kitchen facilities for making snacks and drinks.

Students must be aged 11-16 at the start of the course. We cater for all levels of English; from Beginner to Advnaced.
