The Sixth Form Curriculum

Please note that the 2010-11 A-level Options Booklet is available as a pdf download at the bottom of the main Curriculum page (under Academic).

Year 12 pupils are able to choose up to five Advanced Subsidiary level subjects (AS), although most of our pupils choose four.

In Year 13 pupils normally choose three of their AS subjects to continue to A2 level, as well as having the opportunity to take General Studies (or Critical Thinking) at AS level in January and A2 in June.

The subjects currently available for AS and A2 are:

  • Art
  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Classical Civilisation
  • Design and Technology
  • Economics
  • English Language and Literature
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Further Mathematics
  • Geography
  • German
  • History
  • Information Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Religious Studies
  • Spanish
  • Theatre Studies

These subjects are placed in subject blocks and most pupils choose one from each of 4 blocks. Every effort is made to accommodate all our pupils' desired options, whether existing pupils or pupils joining our Sixth Form from another school.

Testimonials

"When you join the school, you get a buddy who is there to help you around the House and she is just like a big sister. I found that I soon made friends with all the other girls in MacLeod and many of the Pimlico girls. So settling in was not as scary and hard as I thought it would be - it was actually quite fun! "
Emily Phillips (MacLeod, Year 9)
