Lower Sixth Chemists top up their knowledge at Newcastle University
(19 June 2010)
On Thursday 17 June ten Lower Sixth chemists visited Newcastle University for a morning of lectures on Spectroscopy and top tips on University admissions. This was followed by an afternoon spent in their well-appointed laboratories, completing a multi-stage experiment to synthesise a Fruit Flavour Ester. Finally the students analysed their product using infra-red spectroscopy. This was a very useful day which was directly relevant to the A2 part of the Chemistry course they have already started in the last few weeks of the term.

"An excellent atmosphere between pupils and staff with a really good House system, great teaching and a fantastic pastoral side. I thoroughly enjoyed attending Durham School and am very sad to leave."
