Matthew Peacock (OD) in the news

(08 October 2009)

Congratulations to Mathew Peacock (OD) whose innovative musical company "Streetwise Opera" has won the first “Music in the Community Award” launched jointly by The Times and Gramophone magazine. The Times and Gramophone shortlisted five charities working in the field of Music in the Community and the public voted for which of the charities should pick up the award. Matthew is pictured here (seated right) with a galaxy of big names from the music industry at the award ceremony.

Speaking at the award ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London, Editor of Gramophone, James Inverne said of Streetwise Opera: “What started as an idea has become a beacon of how music can add to our quality of life and has captured the imagination of readers of The Times.”

In the past twelve months Streetwise Opera has won two other awards of national importance - the Andy Ludlow Homelessness Award 2008 and a Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award 2008.

Coming up... Streetwise Opera will be appearing at the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 14th November - come along to the parade or watch them live on BBC TV. For more details see the Lord Mayor's Show website.

Testimonials

"When you join the school, you get a buddy who is there to help you around the House and she is just like a big sister. I found that I soon made friends with all the other girls in MacLeod and many of the Pimlico girls. So settling in was not as scary and hard as I thought it would be - it was actually quite fun! "
Emily Phillips (MacLeod, Year 9)
