Poole leavers receive parting gift from Matron
(27 August 2009)
Leavers from Poole House (boys 11-18) were handed a special leaving gift from Matron Helen Wood on their last day in the House where many of them had spent the last seven years - an illustrated Survival Guide to help them as they embark on the next stage of their lives. The booklet was compiled by Helen and her colleague Ivy and contains simple recipes and advice on how to cope in their new lives away from Poole House!Recipes include leek and potato soup, chicken in apple juice, bread and butter pudding and crumble and advice ranged from the safe use of the freezer to tips on washing clothes.
"It is always sad to say goodbye to boys we have come to know very well and it was our way of saying thank you for all the memories and good luck for the future," said Helen. "The vast majority of our lads go on to university and we thought that it would be a good idea to give them a helping hand to settle quickly into their more independent way of life. We ought not to assume that they will know how to do these basic things well and it might save them the odd disaster in their new environment! "

Testimonials
"An excellent atmosphere between pupils and staff with a really good House system, great teaching and a fantastic pastoral side. I thoroughly enjoyed attending Durham School and am very sad to leave."
