Pimlico House win the House Singing Competition

Pimlico House win the House Singing Competition

(06 October 2007)

Pimlico House have taken the honours in this year's House Singing Competition. After the splendour of the Sage Gateshead in March, this year's contest was very different in that it was held in September (after only four weeks of possible rehearsal time) and in the School Chapel where the atmosphere was much more intimate.

What remained the same, however, was the extraordinarily high standard of musicianship on display from all five Houses. Each House had to contribute three pieces: a part-song (for at least 3 parts) and then two pieces sung by the entire House (a hymn of their choice followed by a free choice of song).

In the end it turned out to be a nail-biting finish between the two Houses whose part songs in the first round had most impressed the judge (Mr Philip Sanderson from Chetham's School of Music). Poole's brilliant performance of "Because of you" was matched mark for mark by Pimlico's "I won't say I'm in love." Both Houses pulled out all the stops in the second round but it was the girls of Pimlico House with two fabulous performances ("I the Lord of sea and sky" and "I'll be there for you") who just came out in front.

Testimonials

"When you join the school, you get a buddy who is there to help you around the House and she is just like a big sister. I found that I soon made friends with all the other girls in MacLeod and many of the Pimlico girls. So settling in was not as scary and hard as I thought it would be - it was actually quite fun! "
Emily Phillips (MacLeod, Year 9)
