Friends of Durham School

The Friends of Durham School is a voluntary organisation whose main purpose is to bring parents together and to raise funds to provide equipment and facilities which will be of direct benefit to our`pupils.

They achieve this very successfully, principally by organising social events, the biggest of which is the annual Midsummer Ball, traditionally held on the evening of Speech Day, the final day of the Summer Term.

In recent years the Friends have provided a 65-seat Lecture Theatre, a Ceramics facility in the Art block and a new fitness and conditioning room that would be the envy of any private fitness club. They also provided all the equipment for the all-weather sports pitch (e.g. hockey nets and goalposts and tennis nets).

All parents of pupils at the Senior School are automatically members of the Friends. Members can choose to become as involved in the activities of the Friends as they wish. This can range from attending one of the social events to joining the committee or smply folding napkins and decorating the marquee for the Summer Ball.

Testimonials

"Having not been at such a big school before, I wasn’t at all sure what to expect but I needn’t have worried about anything because everyone in MacLeod was so friendly; all the girls look after one another making you feel extremely comfortable and at home. You soon settle in to the routine of lessons and especially the routine of tea and toast."
Harriet Ward (MacLeod, Year 11)
