Durham School Admissions
Although admission into the Senior School is possible at any stage between Years 7 and 12, the majority of our pupils join us at the start of Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12.
Those wishing to join in Year 7 sit our 11+ Entrance Examination and those wishing to join in Year 9 our own 13+ Entrance Examination or King’s Scholarship Examination. Pupils wishing to join our Sixth Form can enter for a Burkitt Scholarship; otherwise admission is based on a satisfactory performance in GCSE examinations.
Entrance and Scholarship Examinations are held at the School in late January or early February. Pupils who join us in the middle of the school year or who miss the formal Entrance Examinations will normally be required to sit some form of Entrance Tests commensurate with their age.
All admissions to the School are subject to a satisfactory reference being received from the candidate’s current school.
You will find in this section of the website details of our generous academic and non-academic awards and how to apply for them, details of financial support available and how to apply for it, further details of our Enrance and Scholarship examinations, the timetable for our forthcoming Entrance Examinations, our fee structure and our new pupil induction procedure.

Testimonials
"Since James has been at Durham School, we have noticed a dramatic change in his willingness to learn and listen. He has matured beyond our expectations. This transformation occurred within the first year at Durham School."
