Durham School Academic Exam Results

Just as Government League tables can be misleading when read out of context, so can any given year’s GCSE, AS or A level results. Durham School’s pupils cover a wide range of different ability levels from the academically gifted (who will eventually win a place at Oxford or Cambridge) to the girl or boy who will have to work extremely hard and with considerable support for her/his academic success. We aim to bring out the best in every girl and boy and work together with our pupils to ensure that the grades they achieve in their public examinations are a true reflection of their full potential.

Therefore, we prefer to publish our public examination results in the format you will find on the following pages. For each of the three different levels we have provided figures that reflect the average performance of our pupils over the past four years. In the first table on each sheet you will find the average number of candidates per year sitting each subject together with the average number of pupils achieving each grade. The second table on each sheet gives the percentage of pupils achieving each grade. At GCSE level we have provided two further tables detailing the same information for our top set candidates.

Testimonials

"My son’s trips away with the CCF have helped to teach him independence, discipline and confidence in being able to look after himself and others. The House competitions have involved my son in singing and helping out with drama productions, something he might never have done if he had not attended this school. We will all be very sad when the time comes for him to leave. "
Jane Rich (son, Year 12)
