Tennis at Durham School
Girls
Tennis is one of the major sports for girls in the Summer Term. The team players train at Archery Lawn Tennis Club just (less than 5 minutes’ walk from the School) with an external tennis coach and recreational tennis happens on our own all-weather pitch which has 9 courts and a spectacular view of the cathedral. Tennis is played every day and regular inter-school, county and national cup games are played throughout the week and on Saturdays. In the past individual girls have reached national level and in the county competitions our senior side has regularly won the knockout tournament and progressed to regional rounds. The season is always rounded off with a highly competitive but enjoyable inter-house tennis competition.
Boys
Similarly to hockey, our boys’ tennis has only been played at the school since 2005. We have very good facilities for tennis in that our all-weather sports pitch gives us nine full-size tennis courts. We also have excellent links with our local tennis club, which has been associated with the School for many years. The pupils have the opportunity to play tennis one day per week in the Easter term and every day in the Summer term. On average we have 30 pupils playing tennis each day in the Summer term and it is growing in popularity.

Testimonials
"The best thing my husband and I have ever done for our son was to send him to Durham School. Since he joined the school, it has become his life. He is extremely proud of his school and loves everything about it. He enjoys all his lessons and is now finding business studies at 6th form particularly fun and interesting. He gained 9 GCSEs which we were absolutely thrilled about, especially as my son has dyslexia. The teachers at Durham school have given my son so much confidence by constantly praising and believing in him, that he genuinely believes he can do anything with a bit of hard work.
