Rugby at Durham School

Rugby at Durham School is one of the 3 major boys' sports. The qualities of teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, integrity, endeavour, honour etc. which the game develops reflect the traditional values that the School is trying to promote.

The School has a nation-wide reputation, having reached the National Daily Mail U18 Cup Final (played at Twickenham) twice in recent years - in 2001 & 2006. The club also regularly produces schoolboy internationals. The best players go on to play in the premiership -mainly for Newcastle Falcons.

The sport is run as a club - Durham School Football Club. The club is the fourth oldest recorded rugby club in the world - being founded in 1850 - thirteen years before even the RFU was founded.

The main rugby term is the Christmas Term when the School puts out up to ten teams throughout the week - U12 right the way through to 1st XV. Fixtures occur every Saturday during this term. After Christmas there is a development period in the first half of term, before the Sevens season begins after half-term up to Easter. The "A" team players train 3 times a week up to U15, the senior players train 4 times a week. Games sessions are incorporated into the daily programme.

Testimonials

"Since James has been at Durham School, we have noticed a dramatic change in his willingness to learn and listen. He has matured beyond our expectations. This transformation occurred within the first year at Durham School."
