School

The School House, whose history can be traced to at least 1844, is the oldest of the three boys’ houses at Durham School; in school slang, the House is affectionately known as 'Bungites' after a previous Head and House Master, the Reverend Dr Henry Holden, whose nickname was 'Bung'. Situated right in the heart of the School, Bungites commands spectacular views over the Playground, the main sports’ ground, and is home to over 100 day boys and weekly boarders.

There is a resident Housemaster in overall charge of the House, an Assistant Housemaster in charge of years 10 and 11, and a Junior Housemaster who is in charge of the pastoral care of the boys in Years 7 and 8.

"Although my wife and I would like to take some of the credit, most belongs to the teachers and the school. Bow is not just a school it is a community, where both pupils and parents are made to feel part of the family."
