Athletics at Durham School
The popularity and success of Athletics is growing and there is a great spirit of competition we have not seen in recent years.
Participation and success in the UK Athletics Norwich Union Shine Awards leads to the award of a Yellow, Green, Blue, Bronze, Silver or Gold Award, depending on results achieved. Not only does this provide an opportunity for our athletes to compete against each other, but taking part gives the incentive to improve personal performance and achieve individual potential.
Our season includes a number of fixtures against other Independent Schools, including Barnard Castle and RGS Newcastle. The season culminates in the HMC Track & Field Independent School Invitation meeting at Gateshead Athletics Stadium, which brings all the best athletes in the area together and allows our athletes to gauge their ability against the very best opposition. We also give our athletes the opportunity to take part in the Durham County Track & Field Competition where success leads to representative honours at county level.
We also hold annually a very popular Inter-House Athletics Championship at Maiden Castle Sports Stadium in Durham. The Championship rounds off the season with what is always a day of great competition, sportsmanship and determination.

Testimonials
"Our daughter moved to Durham School at the beginning of Year 8. The transition has been excellent and the support that the School has given her during the change has been really first class. In particular, we have been very impressed indeed with the way in which House staff have facilitated our daughter’s entry to the school. They have taken the time to get to know her and we have been very pleased with the advice and guidance that we have all received. We are so pleased we made the move and only wish we had done so earlier."
