Entrance and Scholarship Examinations
Prep School Admissions
A number of valuable external Adamson Scholarships are available for entry at 7+ into Year 3. Candidates are required to sit papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning and to have a short interview with the Headmaster. If you wish your child to attempt to earn a Scholarship to Bow, Durham School, please contact our Admissions Office who will be delighted to give you further information and send you an application form.

Senior School Admissions
Although admission into the Senior School is possible at any stage between Years 7 and 12, the majority of our pupils join us at the start of Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12.
Those wishing to join in Year 7 sit our 11+ Entrance Examination and those wishing to join in Year 9 our own 13+ Entrance Examination. Pupils wishing to join our Sixth Form can enter for a Burkitt Scholarship; otherwise admission is based on a satisfactory performance in GCSE examinations.
The Burkitt Scholarship Examination (16+) for entry into school in the September is held at the beginning of December each year.
Saturday Entrance and Scholarship Examinations are held at the School for entry in the September for 11+ and 13+ at the end of January each year. Pupils who join us in the middle of the school year or who miss the formal Entrance Examinations will normally be required to sit some form of Entrance Tests commensurate with their age.

All admissions to the School are subject to a satisfactory reference being received from the candidate’s current school.
If you would like to register your child for admission to Durham School, there is a downloadable Registration Form at the bottom of this page. Parents of all registered pupils are kept fully up-to-date with all events and developments at the School. Registration is also a pre-requisite for application to sit our Entrance or Scholarship examinations. Please send your completed Registration Form to Admissions Office, Durham School, Quarryheads Lane, Durham DH1 4SZ together with a non-refundable deposit of £50.
