Durham School

Day & Boarding School (Age 3-18)

Founded 1414

Prospective Pupils & Parents

Welcome to Durham School. One of the oldest schools in Britain, Durham School is situated in the heart of Durham City, set in its own beautiful and extensive grounds. The 3-18 school is fully co-educational and incorporates its own preparatory school (age 3-11) at Bow, home of the fabulous Badger Nursery and Early Years Department. It offers a high quality 'total' education to all its 600 girls and boys who can be day pupils or, at the Senior School, boarders (part-time, weekly or full-time). The School has a particularly high reputation for academic studies, music, sport and drama.

We believe that Confidence for Life absolutely sums up what we aim to achieve. We hope that your browse through our website will encourage you to come and pay us a personal visit in the near future, for only by doing so can you really get a good feel for what makes Durham School so special and see for yourself why we are so proud of our 600 years of history and confident about the history yet to be made.

Our Aim: 'To provide outstanding boarding and day education to boys and girls from 3-18 in a challenging, happy, supportive forward looking environment, based on a clear set of moral principles which will shape the ethos of the school'.

Our School Motto: Floreat Dunelmia 'Let Durham Flourish'.

"

My son's trips away with the CCF have helped to teach him independence, discipline and confidence in being able to look after himself and others. The House competitions have involved my son in singing and helping out with drama productions, something he might never have done if he had not attended this school. We will all be very sad when the time comes for him to leave.
