Reading Week 14 - 18 March

14 March 2011

A group of lower 6th formers have been working hard over the past few months to put together a Reading Week programme for the school to promote reading for enjoyment and education (14-18 March).

The week is packed with exciting activities and specially invited guests including two published authors, Janet MacLeod Trotter and Janette Jenkins as well as the editor of Luxe magazine, Kathryn Armstrong, who will run workshops and talks for interested pupils.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday the group has organised storytelling/book reading sessions for Years 7-9 to give them a taste of some of the teachers favourite books.

There will be a treasure hunt that pupils will be able to participate in by looking for clues in different departments. In English there will be a “Write a 50 word story” competition and other departments will be running their own themed events. Over the week a book swap in tutor groups will be encouraged as well as an Alice in Wonderland themed lunch on Friday, when pupils and staff can dress up as a character from a book (prizes for the best), or they may replace an item of school uniform for a red item of clothing (it is also Red Nose Day), they will need to bring in £1 to give to their tutor for this.

In order to add to the stock of books in our library we are asking for donations of good quality children’s fiction and non fiction. If you have any books at home that you would like to donate please bring them to the Grove during Reading Week.
