....In the first round they scored nine out of possible 10 questions correct. They improved on this in the second round with 65/66 on the Crossnumber. A fiendishly difficult crossword with one pair of pupils having the Across Clues and others, the Down ones. It was now all down to the final round: - the Shuttle.
In this round, one pair answered a question and their answer was used by the other pair to solve their question and so on. At the end of this third and final round, they were exhausted but had really done their best. The results were read out in reverse order.....
'Third place: Queen Ethelburga's, second place: Durham School, First place: Durham Johnston".
Mr Middleton Head of Mathematics said 'It was really bittersweet to come so close to getting to the National Final in London, but I am sure that our Year 12 students, Linda and Jeff, will come out fighting next year, and with an extra year of Further Maths under their belts! They really did the school proud and I was delighted with their effort and ability. Well done Durham School!
