Future Development
Durham School's Development Plan is updated on an annual basis and has three main areas of focus.
The first of these relates to processes: the promotion of ever higher standards of teaching and learning, of increasing academic success, of wide participation and excellence in non-academic spheres. Pastoral care provision is constantly under review and development. These sorts of developments are difficult to quantify and describe but the School is always looking to move forward and planning for this in the sense of enhancing pupils' experiences and successes at Durham School.
Secondly, physical provision: recent projects include the upgrading of the existing two ICT labs (2004), the creation of a third ICT Suite (2005), the building of an all-weather sports facility (2004), the creation of a new girls' house (2005), a new build extension of the girls’ day house (2006), redevelopment of the theatre (2006), refurbishment of all houses (2005-07), ICT networking (2005-07), catering refurbishment (2005-06) - and the list goes on.
Future projects in planning are for the creation of a fourth boys’ house and for increasing classroom and changing facilities.
Thirdly, staffing: with increasing numbers and an expanding academic curriculum, expanding pastoral care and growing extra-curricular provision, the numbers of staff be they teaching, sports coaching, administrative or pastoral, arising to ensure that the level of individual attention and focus given to pupils remains as intense as ever.
