Fiddlers on Fire

Fiddlers on Fire

(11 May 2007)

On the last Sunday of April, nine of Bow, Durham School’s keen fiddlers (plus some parents and grandparents) attended some of he events that formed part of The Sage Gateshead’s “Fiddles on Fire” Festival. Some arrived mid-morning to go to two short concerts given by a Norwegian fiddler then by an Irish fiddler. We all attended an afternoon session entitled ‘The Devil’s Violin’ – based around gypsy music and stories. All were held spellbound by a brilliant storyteller, supported by a fantastic fiddler, an accordionist and a cellist in a tale called ‘The Leaves That Hung’. The music was woven into the story to provide extra passion, suspense and excitement and everyone agreed that they had had a wonderful time!

Testimonials

"When you join the school, you get a buddy who is there to help you around the House and she is just like a big sister. I found that I soon made friends with all the other girls in MacLeod and many of the Pimlico girls. So settling in was not as scary and hard as I thought it would be - it was actually quite fun! "
Emily Phillips (MacLeod, Year 9)
