Victory for the hosts in Durham School Cricket Tournaments
(29 June 2010)
Congratulations to our U11 (Bow) and U13 cricket squads both of whom were victorious at the Durham School 6-a-side competitions held on 16th and 17th June.On Thursday 17 June Durham School entered U13 "A" and "B" teams. Both teams reached the final after coming top in their group - the "A"s beating Grindon Hall, Choristers and King's Tynemouth and the "B"s beating Red House, Dame Allan's and Terrington Hall. The "A" team then beat the "B" team in the final.
On Wednesday 16 June two teams from Bow took part in the second Durham School Under 11 6-a-side competition, held at the Senior School. Our "A" team were undefeated all day and won the tournament with four impressive performances to retain the trophy we won at the inaugural tournament last year.
There were four teams in each of two groups, the winner of each group playing each other in the final. Each game comprised five eight-ball overs. In our first game Bow Under 11A played Newcastle School for Boys B team. They scored 25 for 3, Isaac taking two wickets in his over and Jed one. It only took us 3 overs to get 27 (losing just one wicket). We then played Choristers who scored 41 without losing a wicket. However, we reached our target losing just one wicket and with 6 balls to spare. If we won our next match against Mowden Hall, we would be in the final. They batted first and scored 32 for 4. Piers, Jed and Josh all got wickets. We then knocked off the runs in the third over – Josh scoring 25 not out.
The final against Terrington Hall turned out to be our most impressive performance of the day, thanks to our bowlers! With Piers and Isaac took two wickets each, Josh one and a run out, Terrington were bowled out for 12, enabling us to reach our modest target in the second over. We had won the tournament and retained the trophy!
