Early Years Funding

Parents of children attending Bow, Durham School can access free “early years” education. The Government funds local authorities to ensure a free part-time early education place is available for every three and four year old in registered settings that have been inspected by Ofsted and found satisfactory in terms of quality.

Three and four year old children are entitled to free early years education up to a maximum of 15 hours per week for up to 38 weeks of the year. Parents do not contribute towards this minimum entitlement but may be charged fees for any services or childcare additional to the free entitlement of 15 hours per week. Furthermore, any free entitlement must fall within the 38-week period laid down by the local authority.

For further details about eligibility, how the scheme operates and how to access the funding provided by this scheme, please go to Badger Nursery and click on “Early Years Funding”.

Meals

The consolidated fee includes lunch on all five days.

Extras

Chargeable extras are kept to a minimum. They are billed in arrears and are separately payable. Payment of fees is always due before the start of the subsequent term. Extras can include items such as individual music tuition, school transport, school trips and outings, photographs and other minor items.

Sibling Discounts

When two or more brothers or sisters are in the School (including Durham School) at the same time, a reduction of 10% in the fee is made for the second child and subsequent children.

Service and Clergy Discounts

There is a 10% discount for children of personnel in the Armed Forces or children of clergy.

Payment

Bow’s accounts are managed by the Finance Office at Durham School. All cheques should be made payable to "Durham School". However, the standard scheme for payment is by ten equal monthly Direct Debits. Collection of these ten payments commences on 1 August and will continue until 1 May.

Other acceptable payment options are:

  • Termly payment in advance - payment MUST be received on or before the first day of the term
  • Annual payment in advance - payment MUST be received on or before the first day of the ChristmasTerm. a 2.5% discount on the annual fee is offered (an effective rate of interest of approximately 8%)

All returned and cancelled Direct Debits and "returned" cheques will incur a fixed cancellation / administration charge of £25 on each and every occasion. Late payment of fees will attract an interest charge of 2% per month (24% p.a.) on all unpaid sums. These charges will be added to the parents’ account as "extras".

Fees may be paid in cash only by making deposits directly into the School’s bank account using the Bank Giro credit slip provided. Under no circumstances will the School accept cash payments delivered directly to the School. This is a safety, security and insurance matter.

Notice of Withdrawal

A full term's notice of withdrawal is required, otherwise a full term's fees will be charged. Once a place has been accepted, a full term’s notice is required of a decision not to take up that place - otherwise the first term’s fees will be charged in full.

Testimonials

"Thank you for giving Cameron such a wonderful start to his school life. He has so many memories and has made such progress in his learning. Your sensitivity to Cameron's needs was much appreciated - he was quite obviously happy in the Badgers' class. "
