Where to begin
The procedure for applying to and entering a school can seem complicated. The following guide is intended to assist those who may be unfamiliar with the processes involved. It is by no means prescriptive and is simply based on the most common approach adopted by prospective parents.
- Visit our website and/or obtain and study the prospectus.
- Attend an Open Morning. The dates of these appear on the page entitled Contacts and Visits.
- Alternatively or additionally to the above, make a personal visit, with or without your child, at a time that is convenient to you. This allows for more personal attention and will include a tour of the School with the Headmaster and the opportunity for a private discussion.
- Submit a Registration Form together with the £50 Registration fee. This will be acknowledged and will ensure that you are kept up to date with any events that might be of interest and any developments at the School (including a copy of our Newsletter). Payment of the Registration fee does not in itself guarantee a place at the School.
- Provided there is room for your child in the appropriate class for his/her age and there is no apparent reason for the School not to offer a place, we will write with a formal offer of a place at Bow, Durham School. We will enclose two copies of our Terms and Conditions and two copies of the Acceptance Form.
- In order to reserve a place for your child, complete and sign both copies of each form and return one copy of each to the School along with your deposit for £100. (Retain the other copy of the Acceptance papers for your own records.) Please note that this deposit is not returnable if your child fails to take up his/her place at the School. It will be set against your child’s final account when leaving. If your child subsequently transfers to the Senior School, this deposit will be retained and will become returnable at the end of your child’s career at Durham School.
- On receipt of the Acceptance papers and a £100 deposit, we will write to confirm that your child has a guaranteed place at Bow, Durham School.
- Detailed information about your child’s joining the School will be sent shortly before he/she joins the School.

Testimonials
"When you join the school, you get a buddy who is there to help you around the House and she is just like a big sister. I found that I soon made friends with all the other girls in MacLeod and many of the Pimlico girls. So settling in was not as scary and hard as I thought it would be - it was actually quite fun!
