Extra-Curricular Activities
A timetable of activities will be published at the start of every term. Activities run by members of staff are usually free of charge; those offered by an outside provider are charged and payment for them is made direct to the provider, following your receipt of an information sheet from them.
Most activities have a minimum commitment period for the pupils while some activities, such as Bow, Durham Singers, are compulsory for those pupils who are selected and they will be expected to attend on a regular basis.
As a general rule, most outside providers will allow a pupil to attend one after school activity session free of charge as a "taster", after which they would be expected to pay for a full term's tuition. Some activities are very popular so prompt return of any payment is encouraged to avoid disappointment.
Music Tuition
Tuition on a wide range of instruments (piano, guitar, violin, woodwind) is readily available at a reasonable charge. Every attempt will be made to help your child learn to play the instrument of his or her choice. Please contact the school office for further information.
Excursions
From time to time there are trips to concerts, plays, cinemas and museums. The normal practice is for the cost to be added to your termly bill. As a matter of routine, with the exception of sports fixtures, which happen on a regular basis, you will be asked to complete a consent form for any activity which takes place outside of school. Before any trip or excursion can take place, a full and detailed risk assessment analysis is always carried out.

"Jon-Ross has attended Durham School since he was 11 years old. He really enjoys the school, both on the academic side and all the activities. He has gained confidence and a respect for himself and others. His academic achievement has improved in all areas, which has given him the confidence to reach for the sky. I can only say that Jon-Ross loves Durham school and enjoys it completely and when you enjoy something learning comes easy.
