Bullying Culture: The inside story

11 March 2010

Report by Lauren and Millie

Lauren and Millie are in the process of compiling a report about bullying and how to prevent it.

We decided to do our report about bullying. We chose this topic as it is never old news and it’s always relevant. Anywhere there is a group of people there is bullying, it happens in every school in the world.

We thought carefully about what we would like to include in our report and decided on some of the statistics and a true story; we believed this would have the best effect. We also decided to interview the head of pastoral care in of our school.

We had an interview with Mrs F Parker, Pastoral Deputy Head at Durham School. We discussed the issues of bullying and the prevention as well as the ins and outs of her job. She told us about her childhood experiences of bullying.

Our report is all about the problems bullying can cause and what to do if your experience it. There is only really one way to prevent it and that is to speak up about your problems.

We chose to interview Mrs Parker because she is the main port of call for victims in Durham School.

However, our school has another system to stamp out bullying. In Durham school we have a very unique house system to which every pupil belongs. Everyone belongs to a house, and this allows pupils to go to their corresponding house staff to discuss the issues they have.
